A thought on Howard Stark

optimysticals:

So we re-watched Season 1 of Agent Carter today in preparation for Season 2 (like ya do) and something struck me when Howard said:

I grew up on the lower East Side. My father sold fruit. My mother sewed shirtwaists for a factory. Let me tell you, you don’t get to climb the American ladder without picking up some bad habits on the way. There’s a ceiling for certain types of people based on how much money your parents have, your social class, your religion, your sex. And the only way to break through that ceiling sometimes is to lie, so that’s my natural instinct to lie. I shouldn’t have lied to you. For that, trust me, I am truly sorry. “

Bear with me, but what if Howard’s comment about the American ladder and what prevents you from getting to the top is ALL relating to him. I know several people have talked about Howard being Jewish, the social class thing is fairly straight forward from the first three sentences, ditto with parent’s money. But what if the reference to a person’s sex, is not aimed at Peggy?

I’m not saying trans!Howard feels he is lying by being a man, but I imagine he understands the difficulties that someone with his talents would have in the current world if he had not transitioned, and so that is tossed into the list.
