Transgender People are Sort of Superheroes.
We’re born different and it’s totally great, but people don’t understand, and that makes them scared. I think there’s a level of jealousy as well, because they perceive us as being able to choose and control more about ourselves than they can: Having more power over our lives than they do, just because we have to assert more. There’s a full Xavier’s school thing going on as well, where we have the opportunity to connect with a group of strangers from all different communities who have so much in common with us, or don’t, because our powers aren’t the only defining factor about us (even if that’s all the world sees), and you can really make a connection with them because they understand an aspect of you that no one else can ever really grasp. Its also the same in that it’s different for everyone… there’s Magneto, who wants the world to know that they’re amazing. Mystique, who doesn’t think they should care about societies idea of appearance, and Xavier, who doesn’t want to be up-in-your-face about it, and doesn’t correct people when they misgender.
There are people who wish they weren’t trans, of course. It’s a difficult thing to take on in life, but overall there’s so much satisfaction when you’ve really gotten comfortable with it that I feel like it’s really a gift, and I think you come out a better, or at least stronger, person in the end.
