I have a question. I apologize if you've already talked about this subject but as someone who associates with fanfiction and does wonderful fanart I was wondering if you were upset or offended by what Benedict said in that interview people have been talking about for the past few days..?

I’m not upset at all. He’s entitled to feel the way he feels. Granted, he’s only ever been shown certain fanart or fanfiction for the shock value so I don’t blame him for feeling strangely about it.

Fans have shown him their art before. I remember a video in particular where a girl in the audience held up a piece she made and he thought it was wonderful. He’s been given art as gifts and, from what I’ve heard, he’s always delighted.

Honestly, he probably doesn’t understand fandom culture all that well. And he bit of fandom culture he’s exposed to isn’t always a prime example of all things bright and beautiful, if you know what I mean.

He’s a lovely man. A wonderful man, inside and out. I disagree with him about fanart and fanfiction, but you know what? There are a lot worse things we could disagree upon. So this isn’t something I’m going to get torn up about. I’m not drawing any of this stuff for him. I’m drawing it for myself and for the people that enjoy it. So it honestly doesn’t bother me. My feelings are more hurt for those whose feelings have been hurt.

TITLE: First Recording of Human Voice
996,912 plays

nozhs:

On 9th March 2008, historians have found what they believe is the first recording of a human voice. Predating Thomas Edison’s first phonograph recording of 1877. The “phonautograph”, created by etching soot-covered paper by Parisian inventor Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville, was played by US scientists using a “virtual stylus” to read the lines. The recording was initially believed to be the voice of a woman or adolescent, but further research in 2009 suggested the playback speed had been too high and that it was actually the voice of Scott himself. This is the original recording.

These are ALL pretty blurry facially because I am an inexperienced camera idiot who is too impatient to focus properly, but at least it focused on other parts of the costume! Fun fact: I ran into a corner immediately after putting this on and amputated the foot off of the shoulder eagle. Holla. This costume deserves a proper shoot before I put it away, but I pulled it out today for a bit of fun because I LOVE THIS COMIC.

Happy DAY OF DREDD, everyone! Cassandra Anderson is the fast-talking, freewheeling Judge of the Psi Division in Mega-City One. She is generally considered weird and off-putting due to her rather ‘loony’ ways (she is not very taciturn and loves slang and nicknames). She’s allowed to get away with it as being a way to deal with the stress of her psychic abilities, but Judge Dredd (her peer) still is rather unkind about it even though they’re besties right.

In the film, Olivia Thirlby did an incredibly brave thing by representing Anderson as a young rookie - less of a smart mouth, more concerned with surviving the day and trying to embrace her abilities, all while attempting to get past the stern demeanor of Joe Dredd, her superior officer who is known for being a ‘stickler’ for the rules. As Anderson grows to respect her talents and gain her footing in the cruel world of Mega-City One, Dredd, quite unexpectedly, grows with her.

Here’s a thing I’ve had around in my head for a while!

Okay, so I’m pretty sure that by now everyone at least is aware of Steampunk, with it’s completely awesome Victorian sci-fi aesthetic. But what I want to see is Solarpunk – a plausible near-future sci-fi genre, which I like to imagine as based on updated Art Nouveau, Victorian, and Edwardian aesthetics, combined with a green and renewable energy movement to create a world in which children grow up being taught about building electronic tech as well as food gardening and other skills, and people have come back around to appreciating artisans and craftspeople, from stonemasons and smithies, to dress makers and jewelers, and everyone in between. A balance of sustainable energy-powered tech, environmental cities, and wicked cool aesthetics.

A lot of people seem to share a vision of futuristic tech and architecture that looks a lot like an ipod – smooth and geometrical and white. Which imo is a little boring and sterile, which is why I picked out an Art Nouveau aesthetic for this.

With energy costs at a low, I like to imagine people being more inclined to focus their expendable income on the arts!

Aesthetically my vision of solarpunk is very similar to steampunk, but with electronic technology, and an Art Nouveau veneer.

So here are some buzz words~

Natural colors!
Art Nouveau!
Handcrafted wares!
Tailors and dressmakers!
Streetcars!
Airships!
Stained glass window solar panels!!!
Education in tech and food growing!
Less corporate capitalism, and more small businesses!
Solar rooftops and roadways!
Communal greenhouses on top of apartments!
Electric cars with old-fashioned looks!
No-cars-allowed walkways lined with independent shops!
Renewable energy-powered Art Nouveau-styled tech life!

Can you imagine how pretty it would be to have stained glass windows everywhere that are actually solar panels? The tech is already headed in that direction!  Or how about wide-brim hats, or parasols that are topped with discreet solar panel tech incorporated into the design, with ports you can stick your phone charger in to?
