it does not sound stupid!! :) he has so many so many names (some of them are more like titles than names IMO)

ólorin (meaning dreamer/vision) - his original name in valinor… before he came to middle-earth

mithrandir (grey pilgrim) - to elves, dúnedain and people of gondor… and my fave name :)

grey pilgrim / wanderer - A common translation of mithrandir

tharkûn (grey-man/ staff-man) - to dwarves

white rider - after his return ans usually is referred like that when he is with shadowfax

greyhame - more ppl from rohan that use this name

stormcrow - to king théoden (again rohan)

láthspell (bc his news were bad) - again rohan (they dont like gandalf v much asjdksjakja) given by gríma

and last but not least gandalf (wand-elf or something like that) - most used/known name

there are other names like Old Greybeard…Icánus but they are not v known or not v used…i think..i dont remember :T
