Aand here we have Off the Deep End with music commissioned from @everybodee !! They were so wonderful to work with and I love how the final piece came together!
Noticed that some reposts of my old mermaid GIFs are making their rounds again and I finally decided to give in and make a master post of my own (originally they could be found separately or in this video).
PS: And I want to give a big THANK YOU to everybody who are tagging me under all the re-posts. You guys are the best! <3<3<3
asked you: I adore the webbed gloves you made, wow those are impressive! Could you explain the process of making them if you have the time?
Thank you so much! <3 I adore webbed hands / water monsters so they are a pleasure for me to wear as well! You can see more pics and other in progress of them on this tag: http://lithefider.tumblr.com/tagged/webbed_hands
But to be honest the making of them is so simple you will have a ‘why didn’t I think of that!’ moment. I thought a while before making mine and came up with it randomly, tried it, and it looked great!
1.) Trace your hand on a piece of paper, fingers spread wide. Draw on where you want the webbing. Cut it out (and around the webbing line).
2.) Trace onto 4 WAY STRETCH SPANDEX, and cut out leaving plenty of seam allowance (you’ll be trimming them later - leave like 1.5 inch all around, it’ll be easier to sew.). Pin to more spandex and cut out the back (you don’t have to trace it twice, and you’ll be trimming it anyway so you don’t have to be precise on the cutting out). Leave it pinned together so it doesn’t slip while sewing.
3.) Sew about on the lines from your tracing. Sew using normal good thread and a stretch stitch and a stretch needle. Give it some extra, like sew about 2 millimeters outside the lines . (though if your spandex is nice and stretchy or your hands are fairly thin and dainty like mine, just sew on the lines) I’d double sew it myself, for strength. If you want a frill sew it into the arm seam.
(I didn’t have this before but duh before you invert - trim down all the seams to close as you dare, like 2-3mm seams around the fingers especially, 1/8 inch everywhere else)
4.) Invert, and you’ll end up with a webbed glove with no finger dividers.
5.) Now cut out your actual hand from your paper tracing (IE cut off the webbing) then trace the finger lines onto the outside of your inverted spandex webbed hand.
6.) Sew the finger lines one at a time, on the outside. (give these seams a millimeter or two of berth too, your finger is most likely thicker then the lines from the tracing)
7.) You’ll end up with this:
Ta da!
Airbrush for pretty colors. Airbrush it while it is being worn BY YOU OR ANOTHER, you should paint it while it is stretched. If you have no airbrush I recommend hand painting with Dye-na-flow paints.
Have fun!
holy shit this is perfect for what I’m planning on adding to my steampunk mercreature– aaaaaa
Webbed gloves for a commission. Airbrushed spandex with organza frills. They look a lot nicer in person as I used pearlesent paint in some areas so they sparkle a little. :)
I was up late last night finishing these! I like the frills a lot. I used fraycheck on the edges of the organza to keep it from self destructing, as well as a sewn edging line for strength (same as on my own webbed gloves).
why all the merdudes gotta have the cool ass shark fins? why can’t some merladies have cool sharkfins and the merdudes have some sparkly ass beautiful scales that you need metaphors about rainbows to describe
i wanna see a cute merlady with a fucking killer whale for half her body chatting up some cute merdude with a rainbowfish tail ok
