No.

I think you can be born with certain traits that make it easier to learn to draw a certain way in the same way being born tall can make it easier to play basketball a certain way.

There are aptitudes we can be born with: coordination, visual memory, etc. There are limits, too. We can be born blind. It doesn’t really matter what you’re born with, though. What matters more is that you know yourself. I think the most important thing is to want your own art, you know?

A lot of people think “natural talent” means “drawing like that person over there whose work is so realistic.”

It’s not. Natural talent isn’t drawing like someone else. It’s drawing like yourself—figuring out what your art is supposed to look like and then doing that.

The only thing you really need to be born with is motivation, which sounds like a motivational poster, but honestly. Christy Brown painted with his feet and Muggsy Bogues was 5′3″. They didn’t make art or play basketball how other people did—they played the way that worked the best for them.
